Jose James and Jef Neve
The Pace Report: Jose James and Jef Neve "For All We Know" on vimeo by Brian Pace
For well over six months I’ve been raving about the vocal stylings of Mr. Jose James. The Minneapolis native has made London home and has developed a major following overseas. He’s recorded two critically acclaimed CD’s on producer/DJ Giles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings imprint. Both “Dreamer” and his recent “Blacksmagic” pushed the envelop on how jazz and soul can mix and bring a new identity to both jazz standards and modern contemporary music.
“For All We Know” features Belgium born jazz pianist Jef Neve. This is the first release under the Impulse Records label; the label that produced such legends like John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Johnny Hartman, and Pharaoh Sanders. Both Jose and Jef create magic on this recording of jazz standards, a major feat at a time when the jazz world is inundated with female jazz vocalists. Jose’s baritone vocal style is needed and appreciated and is taking the music to new and refreshing heights.
Pianist Jef Neve on the other hand, compliments Jose’s relaxed and cool performance style. The two of them performing classics like “Autumn In New York,” “Tenderly,” “Lush Life,” and “Body and Soul” give new life to the great American Songbook. Neve is about to blow up here in the States and deserves much more credit and respect. He’s gentle giant on the keys and his range shows when he plays a blues ballad to a straight ahead jazz classic.
It’s only June, but “For All We Know” is on my top ten must have jazz recordings of 2010. Make sure you support both Jose and Jef.

Belgian press on Marble Sounds...
Marble Sounds' debute album "Nice Is Good" (out on Zeal Records) is getting wildly acclaimed by Belgian press ! Read all about it here
A new album with Philip Catherine will be released in April 2010 on Dreyfus Music: a live recording of a magical evening at Cap Breton, with an all star line up of Philip Catherine (guitar), Enrico Pieranunzi (piano), Hein Van de Geyn (double bass) and Joe LaBarbera (drums)
On this stunning live recording from Capbreton Island, Philip Catherine, one of jazz music's most sonically and melodically expressive guitarists, is joined by a stellar cast of musicians - Italian piano great Enrico Pieranunzi, drummer Joe La Barbera and bassist Hein Van De Geyn. Together they create a dreamy, unified sound that takes familiar music to new, exotic places. If you're a Philip Catherine fan, you will need this recording, and haven't heard him before - this album will have you hooked. Charlie Mingus once called Philip the “young Django," and he performed regularly with Stephane Grappelli - he is a true gypsy jazz treasure, and this is one his major achievements.
PHILIP CATHERINE - CAPBRETON (Release date April 21, 2010)
After 2 years of writing and recording in several studios, MLCD (My Little Cheap Dictaphone) will release it's new 13-song album "Tragic Tale Of A Genius" !!! Redboy's new project is an ambitious concept album, a musical drama telling the tragic tale of a young musician, talented but tortured, lost between dreams and reality (based on the life of Brian Wilson). This modern Pop Opera is the culmination of more than two years of relentless writing by the four multi-instrumentalists.
The musical universe includes fairy tale pop, with orchestral arrangements (more than 30 instruments on some songs) evoking Mercury Rev and Bernard Herrmann (Hitchcock's soundtracks), the haunted melodies of Arcade Fire and Nick Cave set amongst a “surreal, haunted cabaret” not far from Tom Waits or Flaming Lips, similar to Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. Several guest musicians took part in the project, including Jonathan Donahue of MERCURY REV, Ralph Mulder of ALAMO RACE TRACK and Pall Jenkins of BLACK HEART PROCESSION and 3 MILE PILOT.
At the same time, the band is working with 2 film directors (Bubble Duchesse) and a scenograph (Catherine Cosme) on a live performance of a kind of cool Opera Pop, with decor and 13 orignal video projections on phosphorescent skycrapers and 50's TV, a production that is neither too big nor too intimate, fit to clubs and festivals of the international rock scene.
MLCD will be available for club, festival and theatre shows throughout 2010.
World renowned guitarist/composer Pat Metheny has won an extraordinary 17 Grammy Awards and has been nominated 33 times in 12 different categories, more than any other performer in Grammy history. Aside from all the critics awards and fan accolades, Pat's focus remains continually on the breaking down of barriers and the exploration of new musical ideas. This tour is no exception as Pat moves from brilliant solo guitar improvisations to the unveiling of a totally new technology for the presentation of an acoustically driven "solo ensemble" music he is dubbing Orchestrionics.
The performance will feature music from the forthcoming CD of all new original compositions, as well as some older tunes from the Metheny songbook.
Jef Neve Trio and the Symfonical Orchestra of Youth and Music performs the soundtracks of "Dagen zonder lief" and "De helaasheid der dingen" live at De Nachten, De Singel - Antwerp
Besides the literary-musical-moviecal performance of the trio van Groeningen - Neve - Dhaenens, Felix van Groeningen will bring a couple of scènes that didn't make in the movie. The finale will be big: the soundtracks that Jef Neve wrote for the movies "Dagen zonder lief" and "De helaasheid der dingen" will be performed for the first time by 40-headed symfonical orchestra of youth and music (Jeugd en Muziek).
De soundtrack that Jef Neve composed for the movies "Dagen zonder lief" and "De helaasheid der dingen" is now available on CD : Jef Neve Soundtracks / Universal.

New Clip Pornorama
Pornorama just released it's new single "You're Not Ready". Check out the videoclip starring Belgian actress Maaike Neuville (De Smaak Van De Keyser, Van Vlees & Bloed).
Two of our finest Belgian bands are having an incredible summer.
Both Pornorama & The Sedan Vault featured on the billing of this year's Boomtown festival, the rock festival of the Gentse Feesten. And boy, did they do well ! Both bands contributed to the succes of Boomtown, which was a major hit with approximately 30.000 visitors!
Both bands we're also invited to play at the Krach Am Bach festival in Beelen, Germany. While The Sedan Vault was yet longer programmed to play on the 1st of August, Pornorama was only added to the line-up on friday 31th of July due to a last minute cancellation. The festival organizers claimed to be thankfull for this cancellation as Pornorama turned out to be one of the festivals revelations !
To close of an insane month The Sedan Vault played on the opening day of Theater Aan Zee in Ostend, being invited by this year's festival curator Arno, who contributed to TSV's latest album "Vanguard". Cutting Edge just loved the show and wrote a funny review about it : http://www.cuttingedge.be/music/gigs/170908-the-sedan-vault-myst-re-taz-2009-oostende
Don't be to blue if you've missed out on these remarkable summer shows, you can still catch The Sedan Vault and Pornorama on one of their following shows. Just hurry to the concert section!

New 'live' album SOLEDAD
The new album of SOLEDAD - recorded during two magical concerts in december last year - will be released on ENJA Records.
For the first time it includes some original compositions by Soledad, as well as superb versions of works by Astor Piazzolla and Egberto Gismonti for which Soledad has proved to be unique. After three fabulous cd's released on Virgin Classics, it was time for SOLEDAD to sign with a less classical orientated label, since their music transcends boundaries and their concerts have proved they reach a very broad audience : classical, jazz & worldmusic lovers. They performed at classical festivals (La Roque d'Anthéron, Lugano festival, Flanders Festival, Beppu Festival/Japan, Argerich Festival/Taipei, Domaine Forget/Canada,...), jazz festivals (Festival de Montreal, Veneto Jazz, Euromeet Jazz, Audi Jazz Festival, Blue Note Jazz Festival,..), as well as famous concert halls (Palais des Beaux-Arts/Brussels, Suntory Hall/Tokyo, the ‘Grand auditorium du Palais' in Cannes, Amsterdam Concertgebouw grote zaal).
